crossin the border, at berwick. then onto seahouses, what was a fishing hot spot, now very much a tourist hot spot. needed longer than a hot june sunday afternoon to get beneath the surface of this place. hunger and too many toursits got the better of me.
today 90km eyemouth to alnmouth so excited about the Herring Queen celebration in Eyemouth, which has been happening since 1939. the parts to the celebration can be seen in the link below. amongst other things its a local holiday for fish workers. I would love to chat to some Herring Queens. hoping to make it back here for the celebration in July. Edinburgh to Eyemouth via dunbar and mandy Today 90km from Edinburgh to Eyemouth. Peterhead Fish Market and Port exploration 50km to Aberdeen into a headwind Train to Dundee here is the lovely Coral and Bill that I met at lunch today.
Bills father and grandfather were coopers (making the barrels for the fish.) Corals granny was a Herring Worker. it was lovely to get their take on Fraserburgh then and now. Nice reflections from them below. me and teens travelles some big hills to make it to the Burgh today. today total distance 70km Phoooaaar feel so lucky to have landed on my feet so hard in Buckie! beautiful place lossiemouth, and full of surprises! cycled the nice 30km from nairn, with a tail wind. THEN got to meet Anji and Paul and hear about the Herring Quines of Lossie. then got to swim with some seals. here is a snippet with the Wonderful Anji Hancock talking about her formidable aunties the Herring Quines: Ann Reid and Evelyn Reid. so so excited to discover more about The Lossie workers who went to Parliament and on strike. got to do some digging! thanks for sharing these histories with us.
